Pololu Valley is at the northern most part of the Big Island not far past the quaint town of Hawi. It is the perfect destination for a day trip to the beach for a picnic. It is 75 miles (120 kilometers) from Kona Bayview Inn and take just under two hours to make the drive.
The hike down to the valley is approximately 1/2 of a mile and it is a gradual sloped trail that zig-zags down to the bottom. It is not too difficult and takes about 15 minutes at a casual pace. People do swim here but the water can be rough and caution should be used. Water shoes are advised.
